"The Call"
From the age of nine I have always looked up to those in uniform and i always knew i would follow. My heart had been set out to join adn serve my country with pride, but my mother was so against it because i was her "only son." I under stood how she felt because I would be crushed if i lost her and i know it is worse for her. I tried to move past the military and just follow my passion for computers. I started doing alot with computer and going to summer programs and I just didn't feel the same. So one day i sat my mom down and told her that I couldn't find the joy I got from the military anywhere else i tried so hard and i just could not find it. She responed with a answer that has changed my life for the better. She said she had been seeing me and she was not happy because I was not happy. She poured her heart out and told me that she would be proud for me to service in the military and that i could do what ever made me happy and that would make her happy. The summer after my 11th grade year i went to Boy State not sure if I wanted to go and be there but I went. I found myself that summer one of the JC there was a Marine I told him i wanted to join the serivce just not sure which one i wanted to join. One night after all our stuff we sat down and talked for hours. He basically told me that it is what it is and your are serving your country and you have to be willing to give your life at any giving moment. After that day I was sure I wanted to joina dn it would be either the Marines or the Army. I came home and did my research and found that I was made for the Army and i went to our local recruiting station and got more info. That night i sat my mom down and call my dad and put him on speaker phone and I announced to them that I was going to gone the Army next week. The both were proud of the decision I made and I am now In the Army Reserve and fufilling my dreams.

God places dreams in our hearts for a reason. I'm glad Boys State was one of your stepping stones on your path - it's an incredible opportunity for young men and women to experience the governmental process. Blessings, Marlene
